Most health insurance advice assumes you have one employer, one address and one doctor nearby. If you drive a truck, take travel contracts, deploy to storms or run your own practice, none of that holds, and the cheapest plan on the screen can be the wrong one. Three questions sort it out:
Drivers buy coverage in their home state, so each guide covers that state's marketplace, Medicaid rules and the freight corridors drivers there actually run.
Self-employed and 1099 income is counted after expenses. Our free calculator shows which side of the 400% line you land on in about a minute, with results right away and no sign-up.
Often, yes, but rarely on the Marketplace. PPOs were only about 14% of Marketplace plans in 2025, and many states have none. Private, medically underwritten plans built on nationwide PPO networks are sold outside the Marketplace to healthy applicants, any month of the year.
We are licensed in 30+ states and quote coverage in each of them. Your plan is bought in your home state, the one on your license and tax return, even if you work everywhere else.
No. If you qualify for a meaningful tax credit, the Marketplace usually wins. Private plans tend to win for healthy people over the subsidy line, and they can decline or exclude conditions, so we price both before you choose.
