Getting covered in Louisiana, start to finish

No long process and no cost to you. Most Louisiana groups go from census to quotes in days.

1

Tell us about your team

Ages and ZIP codes for whoever would enroll. No medical history required up front, and asking for a quote commits you to nothing.

2

We build the comparison

We price the fully-insured plans open to your group in Louisiana against level-funded and ICHRA alternatives, then show you the trade-offs in plain numbers.

3

We run the enrollment

Once you choose, we handle onboarding, answer your employees' questions directly, and come back every year to re-shop the renewal instead of rubber-stamping it.

What's different about Louisiana

Insurance is regulated state by state, so the honest answer to "what will this cost" always starts local.

Which exchange applies

Louisiana enrolls Marketplace plans through the federal exchange, Healthcare.gov. There is no state exchange, and rating areas across the state price quite differently.

Medicaid, and why it affects your plan

Louisiana expanded Medicaid, covering adults up to roughly 138% of the federal poverty level, which reshaped coverage for lower-wage service and hospitality staff.

The Louisiana small-group market

Louisiana's small-group market is served by a handful of carriers, with the deepest networks in the New Orleans and Baton Rouge metros. Group pricing and network breadth vary noticeably across the state.

Storm-season continuity

Louisiana has established processes for coverage continuity and special enrollment considerations after federally declared disasters. If a storm disrupts your business or your enrollment window, that is worth asking about rather than assuming a deadline was missed.

Where your people are matters

Carriers file rates by rating area, so the same plan prices differently across New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Shreveport, and Lafayette. If your team is spread out, that spread shows up inside your own quote, and it is worth getting the census right.

Shopping for yourself rather than a team? Our Louisiana individual and self-employed guide covers marketplace, off-exchange, and underwritten options.

The Louisiana options, side by side

These are not interchangeable, and the right one depends on your census. We quote all three.

Traditional group health

One fixed premium, guaranteed issue for 1 to 50 employees, and no one on your team can be turned down for health reasons. The safest choice when you want certainty and a benefit that recruits.

Level-funded plans

Your monthly payment covers administration, stop-loss protection, and a claims fund sized to your group. Come in under expectations and part of that fund can come back to the business.

ICHRA

Instead of buying a plan, you fund a defined monthly allowance and employees choose their own coverage. Your budget is fixed by design and there are no participation minimums to hit.

Louisiana businesses we work with

A few of the industries that come to us most often here, and what tends to drive the decision in each.

Hospitality and restaurants

New Orleans operators run tight margins and high turnover, where the employee-tier contribution is the whole ballgame.

How we approach it: We price fully insured against level funded on the real census, and say plainly which the roster supports.

Industrial contracting

Baton Rouge plant services and specialty contractors need coverage that works for skilled hourly crews.

How we approach it: We quote every structure that could fit and spell out the trade-off in each rather than leading with one product.

Energy and marine services

Gulf Coast service companies manage rotational schedules that complicate eligibility and waiting periods.

How we approach it: We start by sorting who is actually eligible, then price only the structures that survive that answer.

Healthcare and professional services

Small practices and firms across the state hire staff who compare benefits directly.

How we approach it: We model the options side by side and tell you which one we would choose if it were our own payroll.

Louisiana group health questions

The questions Louisiana owners actually ask us first.

No fee, ever. Carriers pay broker compensation out of premiums they have already filed with Louisiana regulators, which means the plan costs the same whether you go through us, through the carrier, or through anyone else. What changes is whether someone compared the options for you first.
Most carriers can write a group with as few as two enrolled employees, and small-group rules generally cover businesses from 1 to 50 employees. Participation and contribution requirements vary by carrier, so the practical answer depends on your team. If a traditional group plan does not fit yet, an ICHRA has no minimum participation requirement.
The working floor is usually about half of the employee-only premium, since that is what most carriers require and also what the federal Small Business Health Care Tax Credit requires for employers that qualify. Beyond the floor, what you fund is a hiring decision: employers competing for skilled staff often cover most or all of the employee tier.

No state law requires a small Louisiana employer to offer health insurance. The federal ACA employer mandate only applies at 50 or more full-time equivalent employees. Most of the owners we work with offer coverage because it wins hiring and keeps good people, not because a statute requires it.
Two alternatives to a traditional fully-insured group plan. A level-funded plan prices to your own group's health and can return money after a healthy claims year. An ICHRA gives each employee a tax-free monthly allowance to buy their own individual plan, with no participation minimums. Both are available to Louisiana businesses, and we quote all three side by side.
